Aghayev reaches kumite semifinals

Azerbaijan have come out strongly in the elimination round of the men's and women's kumite competition at Crystal Hall 3 but not without an upset.
The hosts suffered a minor shock when the 'Maradona of karate' Rafael Aghayev, ran into trouble in the men's -75kg kumite.
Aghayev, greeted with a standing ovation by the spectators when he entered the arena, won his first match in style but was beaten in the second.
Erman Eltemur of Turkey stunned Azerbaijani spectators with a clear 5-3 win over Aghayev, who had to secure his semi-final place with a 3-1-win over Ruslans Sadikovs of Latvia, while Eltemur went through with three wins.
