AZERBAIJAN COMMEMORATES HOLOCAUST VICTIMS
Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Youth and Sports jointly with the UN Department of Public Information held commemoration ceremony on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the Western University, on January 28.
Address by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on International Holocaust Remembrance Day was read out. Acting rector of Western University, docent Zemfira Mammadova underlined that aim of the event is to familiarize young people with hard consequences of Holocaust.
Head of UN Department of Public Information Baku office Enver Selimovich and Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan Arthur Lenk noted that such massacres are directed not only to one nation but all the humanity.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev, press secretary of Foreign Affairs Ministry Khazar Ibrahim, head of Azerbaijani Ataturk Center, Chairman of MM Standing Commission for Culture Nizami Jafarov and others emphasized that Azerbaijan exemplifies tolerance in the world.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27) is an annual international day of remembrance designated by an official resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 1, 2005. German fascism killed about 6 million Jews in 1933-1945s.
