AZERBAIJAN COUNTS USA STRATEGIC ALLY
Having emphasized that our country cooperates with the USA in all areas including in military sphere, the Minister has told: “Our cooperation in military area becomes stronger every year. We attach great importance to cooperation with the NATO within the framework of the “PfP” program, and to bilateral cooperation with the USA. Now, divisions of the Armed forces of Azerbaijan in structure of peace-making forces in Kosovo and Afghanistan and in structure of the antiterrorist coalition in Iraq take active participation in the operations.
Colonel-general Safar Abiyev informed, that recently field doctrines should take place in Baku within the framework of the PfP program “Cooperative Best Effort-04 ”. Azerbaijan has allocated big means on carrying out of these exercises and within one year carried out intensive preparatory measures. We very much regret, that the management of the NATO has cancelled the exercises. At the same time, Azerbaijan in the even greater degree is ready for cooperation with the NATO within the framework of the PfP program and for bilateral cooperation with the USA.
Having thanked for warm reception, the visitor informed, that the purpose of the present visit will consist in the further expansion of cooperation with Azerbaijan, and has told: “As well as in other areas, the USA make efforts for expansion of cooperation with Azerbaijan and in military sphere. The given question constantly is in the center of attention of the US. The United States of America are grateful to Azerbaijan for active participation in the antiterrorist coalition in Iraq.
Then, the parties had a comprehensive exchange of opinions concerning prospects of the Azerbaijan-American military cooperation.
At the meeting also was prese4nt ambassador the US to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish.
