AZERBAIJAN KEEN ON EUROPEAN NEIGHBORHOOD POLICY, ELMAR MAMMADYAROV
Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told a news conference following the meeting with European Union “troika” on Monday that they discussed the existing situation in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He revealed Azerbaijan’s stance on the problem.
According to Minister Mammadyarov, discussions also revolved around energy security and natural gas transportation from Central Asia to Europe.
“Azerbaijan is keen on the European Neighborhood Policy and ready for this process,” said Mammadyarov.
Dimitrij Rupel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, which currently holds rotating EU presidency, said the meeting was effective, adding EU welcomes relationship with Azerbaijan.
According to Rupel, EU supports stability in the region, and solution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. He praised pardoning of arrested journalists and ongoing democratic reforms in the country.
“Energy cooperation is very important but we are going not only to maintain contacts between the EU and Azerbaijan but also establish EU-Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan cooperation,” he said.
