Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan co-produced film competes at major European festival

“Red Shoes,” the first-ever joint feature film by Azerbaijani and Kyrgyz filmmakers, has been included in the main competition program of the Tampere Film Festival.
Celebrating its 56th edition, the festival in Tampere, Finland, is scheduled to run from March 4 to March 8.
The film tells the story of five-year-old Jamal, who lives in a village with his grandmother. One day, he notices the red shoes of a beautiful woman visiting their home. Upon learning that she is his mother, Jamal experiences emotions that are unfamiliar yet deeply personal and intimate.
The short feature film is produced by Kyrgyzstan’s “Tartaly” Foundation and Azerbaijan’s “Cinemedia” company. It is written and directed by Alina Baitukova. The producers are Ayperi Muradbekova and Narmin Muradova. Tunzala Babayeva serves as executive producer, Aliaskar Mirzayev is responsible for color grading, and Nadir Mahmudov handled the film’s sound design.
“Red Shoes” received financial support in the 2025 post-production competition of the Cinema Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
