AZERBAIJAN MULLS NUCLEAR RESEARCH REACTOR CONSTRUCTION

Azerbaijan successfully cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency,” said Andrei Chupov, IAEA project manager, who has been visiting Azerbaijan since January 22.

Chupov said IAEA will prepare a report on the possibility of building a nuclear research reactor in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan applied to the IAEA to study the technical, financial and ecological possibilities of building the reactor. This issue will be discussed in 2009-2010.

IAEA representative said Azerbaijan has passed a successful “path” within short time. Although, Azerbaijan has been IAEA member since 2001, the country has done much work.

During talks in Azerbaijan, Chupov discussed the technical cooperation with Baku, and strategic planning for 2009-2011.
