AZERBAIJAN NATIONAL SECURITY MINISTER MEETS HEAD OF ICRC BAKU OFFICE
Minister of National Security of Azerbaijan, Chairman of State Commission on Prisoners of War (POW), Hostages and Missing Citizens, Lieutenant-General Eldar Mahmudov on February 12 met with Martin Amacher, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Baku Office.
Saying such meetings and discussions are constructive, Eldar Mahmudov noted that clarification of destiny of the missing persons as a result of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan is a priority matter for the Commission.
“4354 Azerbaijani citizens have been registered at the State Committee as missing. During the conflict period 1393 people were released from Armenian captivity. As a result of search measures of the Commission’s Working Group over the past three years, destiny of 684 people was clarified”, the Minister informed.
Eldar Mahmudov noted, to clarify the destiny of missing persons the ICRC initiated “Frame Agreement on collecting ante mortem data about missing persons” project that had great importance. He also added the project had been analyzed at the Commission while consultations being held with relevant state bodies.
Martin Amacher, in his turn, expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijani minister for providing favorable conditions for ICRC employees to hold regular meetings with persons held in the National Security Ministry’s isolator. At his words, the Ministry’s isolators meet all international standards.
The ICRC Baku office chief expressed his satisfaction with the held meetings and their results, noting that fruitful cooperation between ICRC and Azerbaijani State Commission would further continue.
