Azerbaijani ambassador makes report at University of Houston
Baku, March 10 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani ambassador to the United States Elin Suleymanov has delivered a report on “Energy recourses of the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan” in the University of Houston.
Suleymanov spoke about statehood traditions of Azerbaijan and the activity of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR). He said the ADR was the first modern parliamentary republic in the Muslim world. The diplomat added among the important accomplishments of the parliament was the extension of suffrage to women, making Azerbaijan the first Muslim nation to grant women equal political rights with men.
The ambassador also spoke about the accomplishments made in Azerbaijan over the past 22 years since the country regained independence. He stressed Azerbaijan`s securing a seat on the U.N. Security Council was vivid evidence of this. Suleymanov pointed out geographical realities of Azerbaijan were decisive factor in formation of foreign policy directions. The diplomat added Azerbaijan`s pragmatic foreign policy, created by national leader Heydar Aliyev was successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.
According to Suleymanov, the commitment of Azerbaijani leadership to obligations plays great role in the country`s recognition as a reliable partner in the world. The ambassador noted Azerbaijan plays great role in ensuring Europe`s energy security. He also stressed the necessity of the fact that the U.S. government should render strong political support for realization of energy projects.
The diplomat also spoke of the consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying it impedes regional integration.
