Azerbaijani ambassador meets Lithuanian Premier
Baku, December 19 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani ambassador to Lithuania Hasan Mammadzade has met newly appointed Prime Minister of the country Algirdas Butkevičius to discuss prospect for developing relations between the two countries.
“Lithuania is interested in development of bilateral ties with Azerbaijan in all spheres,” said the Lithuanian Prime Minister.
He noted there was a big potential to expand the bilateral ties in a variety of fields, including political and cultural ones.
Congratulating the Prime Minister on his appointment, the Azerbaijani envoy said friendly relations between the two countries would contribute to the strengthening of the economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, in particular in the field of mutual investment.
The diplomat informed the PM about the dynamic development of Azerbaijan and successful reforms in the social, economic and cultural fields carried out in the country.
Mammadzade said Azerbaijan became a leading country in the region.
They discussed the ways for settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Mammadzade noted the occupation of 20% of Azerbaijan territories by Armenians was a real danger for the regional security.
They also discussed the role of the intergovernmental commission in strengthening the Azerbaijani-Lithuanian cooperation and stressed the importance of continuing its activities.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Butkevicius expressed his desire to visit Azerbaijan early next year.
