AZERBAIJANI DEPUTY FM VISITING AFGHANISTAN
Azerbaijan`s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Araz Azimov and his accompanying delegation have been visiting Afghanistan from August 25.
Azerbaijan`s charge d`affaires to Afghanistan Ibrahim Gafarov said the aim of the 3-day visit is to strengthen bilateral ties, to learn about needs of Afghan government and its people, and to meet with Azerbaijani peacekeepers.
Araz Azimov met with peacekeepers on the first day of his visit and presented gifts to them.
He also met with commander of NATO`s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in the Kabul region French General Michel Stollsteiner.
Later the same day, Azimov met with Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs Rangin Dadfar Spanta and Minister of Internal Affairs Zarar Ahmad Moqbil to discuss important issues of mutual interest. The sides decided to intensify contacts between Foreign Ministries, set up the intergovernmental economic commission to expand economic and cultural ties.
On August 26, Azerbaijani delegation held meetings at the Ministries of Defense, Health, Economy and Mines and Industry. During the visit, the delegation will meet with speaker of the Afghan parliament Yunus Qanuni.
