During the meeting, they noted that Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations have deep historical roots. The formation of friendly ties between the two peoples during the Soviet era was highlighted, with emphasis on the historic significance of the visit by Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh to Azerbaijan in 1959 and National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s visit to Vietnam in 1983 as First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR.
They pointed out that President of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam attach special importance to cooperation between the two countries.
The sides said that following the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence, the establishment of diplomatic relations and mutual visits by heads of state created broad opportunities for the dynamic development of bilateral ties.
They emphasized that the state visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Vietnam in 2014, as well as the official visits to Azerbaijan by President of Vietnam Truong Tan Sang in 2015 and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam in 2025, gave impetus to the development of bilateral and multifaceted relations and created a solid foundation for deepening economic, political, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. The adoption of the Joint Statement on the Establishment of Strategic Partnership on May 7, 2025, brought Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations to a new stage of development.
Highlighting the importance of ties between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam as an important component of Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations, the significance of regular contacts and mutual visits was underscored. The sides noted that the implementation of tasks arising from the Cooperation Agreement signed between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam in 2023 serves to strengthen friendly and partnership relations both between the parties and between the two countries.
The importance of close cooperation between media organizations was emphasized in the context of key tasks assigned to various institutions to advance strategic partnership relations. They noted that targeted measures to ensure continuous information exchange, provide ideological support for defending the national interests of both countries on the international stage, conduct systematic information campaigns in various languages, and jointly combat disinformation are of utmost importance.
