Azerbaijani FM meets Second President of Austrian National Council
Baku, March 5 ( AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has today met a delegation led by the Second President of the Austrian National Council Fritz Neugebauer.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov welcomed the Austrian parliamentary delegation to Azerbaijan and noted with satisfaction mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Austria. Noting high level political dialogue between the two countries, Minister Mammadyarov underlined the potential to strengthen economic ties, particularly energy cooperation. He also underlined the importance of parliamentary relations in the current global affairs and pointed out that increasing parliamentary exchanges between Azerbaijan and Austria would contribute to the overall relationship.
During the discussions, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and said that the prolongation of the conflict settlement is a threat to the peace and security in South Caucasus and whole Europe. He said that regrettably the UN Security Council resolutions on the conflict as well other decisions and resolutions of other international organizations have not been implemented and stressed the necessity for the international community to send a clear message to Armenia to ensure the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from occupied territories of Azerbaijan. He also noted the need for the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from occupied territories of Azerbaijan to lay the basis for peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Second President of the Austrian National Council Fritz Neugebauer thanked for warm welcome and noted with satisfaction dynamic development of bilateral ties across all areas. Calling Azerbaijan a reliable and main partner for Austria in the region, he said that Austria is keen to further expand this cooperation. He also stressed that this parliamentary visit to Azerbaijan will strengthen parliamentary ties thus contributing to the overall relations. Fritz Neugebauer also praised Azerbaijan`s important role in the European energy security and expressed his country`s interest and that of Europe in furthering energy cooperation with Azerbaijan.
The sides also exchanged opinions about other issues of mutual interest at the meeting.
