Azerbaijani ICT Minister meets head of publishing company Elsevier
Baku, May 24 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov has met head of Dutch publishing company Elsevier Young Suk Chi.
Abbasov said 2013 was declared the Year of information and communication technologies in Azerbaijan by the presidential order.
The Minister spoke about the reforms implemented in the country, including the development of the concept “Azerbaijan 2020: Vision into the Future”.
Noting science, education and technologies are one of main directions laid down in the Concept, which will play a crucial role in the future development of the country, Abbasov noted that the country has already laid the foundation for the transition to a knowledge-based economy. In this regard, for the progress of e-science, the country attaches great importance to cooperation with influential international electronic libraries, such as Elsevier.
In turn, expressing satisfaction with the sustainable development in Azerbaijan’s economy, Young Suk Chi said that Elsevier owns 25% of global market of scientific publishing, and the company possesses scientific information databases such as ScienceDirect, Scopus, and SciVal.
According to him, the scientific basis of Elsevier, as the oldest publishing house in the world, can be used as a great source of information in the future activities of Azerbaijani scientists and in their research.
Expressing interest in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the future, the head of the publishing company underlined that the expansion of ties will contribute to the Azerbaijani science, including the formation of e-science in the country.
