AZERBAIJANI, ROMANIAN PRESIDENTS MEET IN PRESENCE OF DELEGATIONS
Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Traian Basescu of Romania met in the presence of both countries` delegations in Baku on Thursday.
Ilham Aliyev said friendly relations between Romania and Azerbaijan were rapidly expanding, and described the two countries as close partners in political, economic, cultural and energy spheres. He added Azerbaijan and Romania have succeeded in regional cooperation as well.
Ilham Aliyev characterized the current visit of the Romanian President to Baku as very important in terms of strengthening cooperation and security in the region. “There should be stability in the region. We are very much concerned about the tension”, he said.
Traian Basescu, in turn, described Azerbaijan as a country playing very important role in both regional issues and those relating to European energy security. “It is a reality and our bilateral relations are at a high level”, he said.
Following the talks, the Presidents made statements to the press. They stressed that Azerbaijan and Romania have common stance on security and energy issues, and that this is what promotes strengthening ties between the two countries.
Touching upon the existing conflicts in the region, including between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, Mr. Basescu emphasized that his country supports settlement of all conflicts on the base of territorial integrity of states.
