AZERBAIJANI SPEAKER MEETS PACE PRESIDENT
Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament Ogtay Asadov, who arrived in Strasbourg to attend the two-day gathering of speakers of member countries of the Council of Europe, met Thursday with chairman of the PACE President Lluís Maria de Puig.
During the conversation, it was noted that all conditions have been provided in Azerbaijan for development of democracy, which is the basic value of the Organization.
They stressed Azerbaijan-COE cooperation has strengthened and developed even more.
The speaker told of his country’s rapid economic progress, saying Azerbaijan is not only leader in the Caucasus, but also among CIS countries for its economic development.
Speaker Ogtay Asadov invited PACE President to take part in celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world, among the first nation-states granting universal suffrage rights.
