AZERBAIJANI WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM SUCCEEDS IN WORLD HOCKEY OLYMPIC QUALIFIER

On April 13, Azerbaijani women’s field hockey team beat Chilean rivals 2:1 in the World Hockey Olympic Qualifier started on April 12 in Baku. On the same day, Spanish team defeated Belarus 4:0, while Ukraine outplayed Kenya 6:0. The results of April 13 matches are as follows: Azerbaijan-Kenya (13:0), Ukraine-Belarus (2:0), Spain-Chile

(5:0).

During the official opening of the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ismayil Ismayilov and first Vice-President of Azerbaijani Hockey Federation (AHF) Namig Aliyev wished the teams every success. The speakers underlined that Azerbaijan is known not only for its sports achievements but also high-level organization of the competitions, adding that 36 international tournaments were conducted in 2007.

Vice-President of International Hockey Federation Mrs. Annabel Dillon conveyed best wishes of FIH leadership to AHF. She praised high-level organization of the tournament. “I believe the worthiest team will snatch Beijing Olympic license”, said Vice President. Mrs. Dillon expressed her gratitude to the management of Ataholding Company for financial support.
