AZERI DELEGATION VISITS QATAR
Azerbaijan’s delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Rector of Diplomatic Academy Hafiz Pashayev made an official visit to Qatar on February 9-11, Azerbaijani embassy to the country reported.
During the visit, Mr. Pashayev met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al Thani, chief of Amiri Diwan Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saud Al-Thani, vice-president of Science, Education and Public Development Fund Abdulla bin Ali al Thani, chief of Foreign Ministry’s Department for Human Resources and Training Hamad al Attiyyah and director of Doha-based Georgetown University’s Center for International and Regional Researches Professor Mehran Kamrava.
At his meeting with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al Thani, Pashayev discussed development of bilateral relations, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
Mr. Pashayev also proposed a student exchane program under which Qatari students can join Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and Azeri students can, in turn, attend Doha-based international policy institutes such as the Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
The country’s local media highlighted the delegation’s visit.
In his interview to the country’s English language daily newspaper Qatar Tribune, Rector of Diplomatic Academy Hafiz Pashayev said that Qatar is giving a lot of attention to education and “they wish to promote bilateral links in this area”.
“I would like to see Qatari students at our English-medium Diplomatic Academy. It will be an exciting opportunity for them to be a part of our system and learn a great deal about former Soviet republic by being based in Baku. In return, Azeri students can attend courses here and enhance their understanding of the Arab world, for which Qatar is perfect gateway. It will be beneficial for both countries”, he said.
Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy was created in March 2006 and currently trains growing rank of diplomats for the country.
