AZERI OMBUDSWOMAN MEETS UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR
Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova met Thursday with UN Resident Coordinator for the country Bruno Pouezat.
Suleymanova characterized the United Nations as one of the world`s most influential organizations which she said is doing great job to preserve and establish peace, stability and democracy across the world.
The ombudswoman said a series of commemorative events will be held across Azerbaijan as 2008 marks 20 years since Armenia’s aggression against her country.
Suleymanova underlined this year will also see the 60th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as 55th anniversary of European Convention on Human Rights and 90th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
Suleymanova said for the first time in its history, on June 18, Azerbaijan will mark the day of Human Rights and host an international conference on the occasion.
Bruno Pouezat noted he is always ready to cooperate with Ombudsman institutions.
He said he will help Azerbaijan through foreign donors to arrange the conference on human rights.
