NATO science department and the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Geology Institute will hold a seminar entitled "Management of subterranean waters and their sustainable development in urbanized territories" at the Azerbaijan Hotel on August 6-15, AzerTAj correspondent reported.

The event will be dedicated to such issues as the human factor in the environment, in particular, hydrogeology, landslides caused by subterranean waters, changing quality of waters, and increasing seismic threat.

The seminar will be attended by 60 representatives from 11 NATO member-states and 7 partner countries, including those from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Land-reclamation and Water Committee, the Baku State University, the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, and foreign ambassadors accredited in Azerbaijan.

The seminar will be co-chaired by a professor from Britain's Birmingham University John Tellam and a professor of the NAS Geology Institute Rauf Israfilov.

A similar seminar was held with NATO's assistance in May 2001.
