BAKU HOSTS AZERBAIJAN-UK CONFERENCE
Baku, 22 July (AZERTAC). An International conference was held Tuesday in Baku with the participation of the Azerbaijani and British business circles. Representatives of Azerbaijani and British bank sectors were also present at the event.
Opening the conference, Jahangir Hajiyev, chairman of the International Bank of Azerbaijan (IBA) spoke about the role of the British companies in developing Azerbaijani economy, stressing that “it is important to learn the experience of UK bank sector”.
In his turn, Alderman Jan Luder, Lord Mayor of the City of London, stressed the “importance of the conference in developing ties between UK and Azerbaijan”.
“Oil sector makes basis of Azerbaijani economy, but it is of no less importance to develop and raise investments in other industries as well. Azerbaijan is open for international organizations and international investments. Today, about 150 UK companies are operating in Azerbaijan,” Mr. Luder emphasized.
The speakers of the conference also included: Manager of the London Stock Exchange John Edwards, IBA Advisor to the Chairman of the Board Faiq Mammadov, the head of the EBRD in Azerbaijan Francis Delay and heads of organizations and business structures operating in Azerbaijan.
The British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Carolyn Browne, representatives of the Ministries of Economic Development and Finance, local and foreign businessmen were also present at the conference.
