Bank of Scotland to issue polymer banknotes
Baku, July 8, AZERTAC
Bank of Scotland has announced that it will be issuing new £5 and £10 notes on De La Rue's Safeguard polymer substrate, including a limited edition £5 to be auctioned to raise money for Bank of Scotland's Charity of the Year, BBC Children in Need
Monday 1 June 2015: De La Rue is delighted to add the Bank of Scotland to the increasing list of its Safeguard customers. As announced by the Bank, the design of their new, slightly smaller £5 and £10 banknotes will look similar to the current notes showing Sir Walter Scott and The Mound in Edinburgh. However some adaptations will be made to exploit the benefits of the Safeguard substrate –the inclusion of a clear window in the banknotes for example.
Whilst the circulating notes will be issued into circulation from the second half of 2016, the first Safeguard banknote will be a one-off limited edition £5 to be issued in November this year. Just 50 notes will be produced which will be sold at auction to raise money for Bank of Scotland's Charity of the Year, BBC Children in Need. These notes will feature winning designs from a children's design competition.
Commenting on the announcement, Robin Bulloch Managing Director Bank of Scotland said "We take seriously our responsibility to create good quality, genuine banknotes that can be used with confidence. We are looking forward to working with our partners De La Rue to bring this new project to fruition".
