Briefing dedicated to Azerbaijan`s economy held in London
London, 24 April (AZERTAC). A briefing dedicated to Azerbaijan`s economy has been held in “Asian House” in London with the support of UK-Azerbaijan Business Council.
The companies interested in Azerbaijan participated in the event, which featured discussions on trade and investment opportunities in the country, as well as the prospects for the development of bilateral economic cooperation.
In his speech, Azerbaijan`s ambassador to the United Kingdom Fakhraddin Gurbanov gave detailed information about the rapid development of Azerbaijan`s economy, improvement of business environment, the country`s successes in all areas and its growing international reputation. The ambassador highlighted economic reforms carried out by Azerbaijan`s leadership. He pointed out that developing the non-oil sector was one of the top priorities for the country.
On the development of economic relations between Azerbaijan and Great Britain, the Ambassador said energy cooperation was lying at the heart of the relationship between the two countries. The Ambassador said there has been a wide range of opportunities in the non-oil sector of the national economy, especially in agriculture, food industry, tourism, information and communication technologies, education, alternative and renewable energy sectors. Mr. Gurbanov called on British companies to be active in cooperation.
British Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan Charles Hendry praised the relations between the two countries. “The British government is interested in expanding economic cooperation with Azerbaijan,” he said, calling UK firms to increase the focus on non-oil sector of the country.
