CONFERENCE ON GUAM DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY CONTINUES IN BAKU
A two-day conference “GUAM Development Strategy” continued its work in Baku on Friday focusing on the role of scientific and technical progress in production process, investment opportunities and energy security in the GUAM member countries and joint fight against economic risks.
During the conference, the Working Group on the role of the GUAM financial sector’s development in the world economy, held its third meeting, which resulted in signing of a draft document on establishment of Coordinating Council of GUAM Banks Associations.
GUAM Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili told journalists that debates held at the conference were very effective.
According to him, the proposals made during the conference will be included in the documents of GUAM’s next summit to be held in Tbilisi, Georgia. He said one of the main priorities of GUAM is to expand cooperation among member states adding it will be the focus of the Organization’s future meetings.
Mr. Chechelashvili also touched upon the resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly concerning the existing conflicts in the GUAM member states. “Adoption of the resolutions on the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and status of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia proves that positions of Azerbaijan and Georgia have been strengthened”, said Valeri Chechelashvili.
