COP29: Addis Ababa calls for accelerating implementation of Baku Finance Goal
Baku, September 3, AZERTAC
A representative of the COP29 Presidency, Elchin Allahverdiyev, addressed the opening of the Fourth Dialogue under the United Arab Emirates Just Transition Work Programme in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, emphasizing that just transitions must be tailored to each country’s unique social, economic, and national circumstances, reflecting their development pathways and priorities.
“Elchin Allahverdiyev underscored that the delivery of key means of implementation, like finance, technology, and capacity-building, is essential to ensure fairness and inclusivity. In this context, he highlighted that the historic decisions on the Baku Finance Goal, adopted at COP29, must be implemented without delay to create the necessary enabling conditions for just and equitable transitions,” COP29 said in a statement on X.
It is worth noting that the COP29 Presidency is in Addis Ababa for the Second Africa Climate Week (ACW2) and the Second African Climate Summit (ACS2). The Presidency will join leaders from government, civil society and the private sector to accelerate action on every front, and ensure that the commitments made at COP29 translate into practical action that supports African nations.
