DEFENSE MINISTERS OF AZERBAIJAN AND BELARUS MEET IN MINSK
As was stated, on August 27, colonel-general L. Maltsev has received at the Ministry of Defense of Belarus colonel-general S. Abiyev and delegation headed by him. Ministers have met in the beginning in private, and then - in the expanded staff.
Colonel-general L. Maltsev has told: “Ministers of Defense of two states for the first time meet with a view of adjustment of bilateral cooperation. We are very much interested in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan. This initiative is supported also with the political management of Belarus. Having thanked for warm reception, colonel-general S. Abiyev has emphasized: “Earlier we carried out meetings only within the framework of the CIS Council of Ministers of Defense. But time of transition to bilateral cooperation has already come. It is convinced, that this cooperation will benefit to armed forces of both states.
Having touched on existing in region of the Southern Caucasus of the military-political situation, the aggressive policy of Armenia against Azerbaijan and consequences of the conflict, Mr. Abiyev has stated: “Azerbaijan does not wish war, however, it is dragged in it.
The Belarus minister has expressed a regret concerning insolvency till now the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. He has told: “We count, that this conflict should be settled according to principles of the United Nations, within the framework of international legal norms.”
Widely having discussed questions of the Azerbaijan-Belarus military cooperation, Ministers of Defense have determined its basic directions. They came to the concrete decision on realization of military - technical cooperation, carrying out of joint military research works, cooperation in the field of staff preparation and other spheres.
Colonel-general S. Abiyev has told: “President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev supports military cooperation with Belarus. I invite you to make official visit to Azerbaijan. Before your arrival to Baku, the text of the Cooperation agreement between the Ministries of Defense of two states will be ready, and we shall sign it”.
Colonel-general L. Maltsev has accepted the invitation.
During the visit, colonel-general S. Abiyev has visited Military Academy of Belarus and the Belarus National Technical University and several military-industrial enterprises of Belarus, and has familiarized with production made by them.
On August 28, was held the second meeting of Ministers of Defense on which they came to the decision on fast transferring of the Azerbaijan -Belarus military cooperation from the plane of negotiations in a practical plane.
The same day, the delegation of Azerbaijan has come back home.
