FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS WITH COE OFFICIALS
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov met Wednesday with Ms. Claudia Luciani, Director of Political Advice and Cooperation at Council of Europe’s Directorate General of Political Affairs and Ms. Veronica Kotek, newly appointed Special Representative of the Council of Europe Secretary General to Azerbaijan.
The Minister described Azerbaijan-CoE relations as very positively, noting the democratic reforms being implemented in the country in compliance with its obligations and commitments with the organization are first and foremost oriented towards development and prosperity.
Ms. Luciani praised Azerbaijan’s efforts to further develop democracy in the country. She said the Council of Europe is interested in increasing effectiveness of its cooperation with Azerbaijan, adding it could be achieved by implementing various joint programs, in particular, by organizing training courses for journalists and judges.
The talks also focused on the preparatory work for the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, cooperation with relevant government bodies and ways of strengthening democratic values in the country.
