Galatasaray knock out Fenerbahçe to reach Turkish Cup semifinals

The Istanbul derby once again went the way of Galatasaray, who defeated Fenerbahçe 2-1 on Tuesday, April 2, to advance to the semifinals of the Turkish Cup, according to BeInSports.
The intense quarterfinal clash was held at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, home of Fenerbahçe, in a charged atmosphere typical of Turkey’s biggest rivalry.
The star of the night was Victor Osimhen, who scored both of Galatasaray's goals in the first half. The Nigerian forward opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a powerful finish inside the box, and then converted a penalty in the 27th minute after Mauro Icardi was brought down in the area.
Fenerbahçe pulled one back through Sebastian Szymański just before halftime (45+1), raising hopes of a second-half comeback. Despite enjoying more possession and pushing forward, İsmail Kartal’s men couldn’t break through Galatasaray’s disciplined defensive structure.
As expected in one of the fiercest rivalries in football, the match was physical and emotionally charged. Several players received bookings, and the atmosphere in the stands was electric. Galatasaray kept their cool under pressure and showed great tactical awareness to see out the result away from home.
With this win, Galatasaray books a spot in the Turkish Cup semifinals, keeping their hopes alive for domestic silverware in a season where they’re also chasing the Süper Lig title.
