Georgia interested in fast construction of BTK, Georgian PM

Baku, June 28 (AZERTAC). Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili expressed his country`s interest in fast construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

“We are speeding up the completion of construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway to participate in the export of goods and troops out of Afghanistan,” Ivanishvili said at a briefing after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

In the framework of the "Baku-Tbilisi-Kars" railway it is planned to build a new 105-kilometer branch of the railway. In addition, there will be reconstructed railway section Marabda-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi in Georgia, which will increase its capacity up to 15 million tons of cargo per year. There will be built a point to transfer trains from the existing Georgian railway tracks to the European ones in Akhalkalaki.
