GEORGIA`S INDEPENDENCE DAY MARKED IN BAKU
Georgia`s Embassy in Azerbaijan held a ceremony to mark the Independence Day of Georgia at the Gulustan Palace in Baku, Azerbaijan on May 30.
Georgia`s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikoloz Natbiladze told of the importance of the independence that his country regained in 1991. He said Georgia is today strengthening its independence, developing economy and building the democratic society.
The ambassador said there were friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia. Energy projects initiated by national leader Heydar Aliyev are the example of the cooperation, said the ambassador. He also added that Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Mikhail Saakashvili of Georgia contributed to expansion of relations between the two countries.
Ogtay Asadov, Speaker of the Azerbaijan Parliament, congratulated the Georgian people on the occasion. Mr. Asadov said friendly relations had developed even more after the two countries regained independence. He emphasized the importance of the two countries’ cooperation in realizing regional projects.
Also present at the event were members of the Azerbaijan parliament, ministers, ambassadors accredited to Baku and other officials.
