Girl swims with arms and legs bound
Baku, September 1 (AZERTAC). At 17 years of age, the Georgian national has set herself an extraordinary challenge - to swim a distance of five kilometre across the Dardanelles. But if that isn`t difficult enough, she`ll it doing with her arms and legs tied.
Ms Lominadze chose the ancient Georgian military-training style of swimming to complete the annual swimming event because she is intent on becoming a world record holder
`There are lots of people who crossed (the Dardanelles) swimming freestyle, but when I found out that I had a chance to establish a new record, and I knew I could, I started training. Of course I really want to make it, to become the first woman in the world, the first woman record holder in the world. I think it is really good. I know I can do it, and that is why I made this decision. I am really a goal-seeking person and always wanted to do something that nobody else has done before,` the young swimmer told Reuters.
Depite the difficulty, Ms Lominadze is confident she can achieve her goal.
`I can not even imagine I would not be able to do it, because if I set up a goal I do work very hard to achieve it. But if I fail, I will start training for a bigger thing, I want to swim across la Manche (the English Channel) so much. Then I will work harder, will train more, and will achieve a bigger goal,` she said.
Her coach Kuprashvili, who heads the Georgian Federation of National Swimming Style, is in charge of promoting the sport and its health benefits, which he says include improving your spine.
`We want not only to do our best, but to show the world a different style, which is a part of our ancient cultural heritage,` Kuprashvili told Reuters.
The annual open-air marathon swim will span the European side of the Dardanelles Straits to the naval fort in Canakkale in the Asian part of Turkey.
