IFSC World Cup 2013 kicks off in Baku
Baku, June 22 (AZERTAC). The World Cup on Sport Climbing (Speed) 2013 has today started in Baku.
A delegation led by IFSC President Marco Scolaris attended the opening ceremony.
The competition will see the world`s fastest 69 climbers from 11 countries who will fight for records, points and victories. The co-organizers of the competition are the Air and Extreme Sports Federation of Azerbaijan (FAIREX) and the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Sport and Youth supports the competition. The competition is held in the most beautiful place of Baku, just a few steps from outstanding “Flag Square”, in the area of seaside promenade. 15 meters climbing wall and other appropriate facilities is available for all World Cup participants.
Sport climbing is a form of rock climbing. Although the history of this sport is not so long-standing, but it is one of the most popular sports in many countries of the world today. This kind of sport is not only competitive for its nature. Its role increased by including in the curriculum of schools in many developed countries. Special programs were developed for people with disabilities as well. As a result of rapid development and popularization in the world sport climbing has been short-listed for the 2020 Summer Olympics Games.
International Federation of Sport Climbing is the main international body standing for the development of sports climbing worldwide and uniting national Federations (IFSC).
