INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATIONS EXPAND CO-OP
The meeting was opened by the head of representation of the international humanitarian organization “Save the Children” in Azerbaijan Triggve Helke.
Deputy prime minister, chairman of the Republican Commission on international humanitarian assistance Ali Hasanov has told about the measures taken in the Republic according to the “State Program on solution of refugee and IDPs problems”, and also the necessary measures accepted in connection with maintenance of execution of offers and assignments, put forward at the February 2004 International Conference on the topic “10 years of humanitarian activity in Azerbaijan: the influence, the saved up experience, the further directions”, execution of the “State program on improvement of living conditions and increase of employment of refugees and IDPs”. He has noted that the government of Azerbaijan prepares to free the humanitarian organizations, structures of micro financing, irrespective of financial sources, functioning in Azerbaijan, from social insurance and profit tax. At the meeting, also was discussed the question of introduction for these organizations of the certain privileges.
The head of representation of the international organization of the humanitarian help “Mercy Corps” in our country William Holbrook has told at the meeting about cooperation of structure represented by him with the government of Azerbaijan in solving problems of refugees and IDPs. The representative of the international humanitarian organization "FINCA" in Azerbaijan Jeff Flowers has dwelt on activity of structures of micro financing in the field of improvement of conditions of refugees and IDPs. .
Chairman of the Azerbaijan Micro Financing Association Chingiz Mammadov informed about the work done by the structure represented by him in the Republic in the field of poverty reduction, about the environment of micro financing existing in the Country and its development. He has noted, that now more than 40 thousands needy citizens and representatives of small business have received the credit in the organizations, which are included into Association. The total sum of the given credits has exceeded 100 million US dollars.
Also was held exchange of views on the discussed questions. Mr. Ali Hasanov summed up the meeting. Representative of the United Nations in the Republic Mr. Marco Borsotti attended the meeting.
