International Novruz celebration in Hanoi: Azerbaijani culture showcased in Vietnam

The Novruz holiday was celebrated with great enthusiasm and solemnity at the Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism of Vietnam.
Co-organized by the Embassies of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in Vietnam, the festive event brought together representatives of Vietnamese state and government agencies, cultural and public figures, businessmen, ambassadors of Türkiye, Pakistan and Thailand to Vietnam, representatives of diplomatic missions, members of the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Friendship Association, Vietnamese graduates who studied in Azerbaijan, as well as media representatives and Azerbaijanis living in Vietnam.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Vietnam Shovgi Mehdizade conveyed his congratulations on the occasion of Novruz, noting that this holiday has a unique place in the centuries-old history of the Azerbaijani peoples. He said Novruz is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm by Azerbaijanis around the world every year, adding that it has many similar features to the Vietnamese New Year holiday "Tet".
Noting that the foundation of Azerbaijan-Vietnam friendly relations was laid by National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and Leader of Vietnam Ho Chi Minh, the diplomat hailed the advancement of relations between the two countries across all areas in recent years.
Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Vietnam Kanat Tumysh and Rector of the Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism Trinh Thi Thu Ha extended holiday greetings, emphasizing that this festive event played a special role in the development of friendship and cooperation between the two peoples.
Guests enjoyed traditional Novruz sweets and semeni-adorned khonchas while experiencing the Azerbaijani hospitality. The program further showcased the Azerbaijan’s heritage through national costumes and videos highlighting the country’s tourism potential and holiday traditions.
During the event, Azerbaijani chef, President of the World Barbecue Association for Asia and Eastern Europe David Israfilov presented delicious samples of Azerbaijani cuisine, with guests tasting various types of kababs, pilaf and dolma from the national cuisine.
As part of the program, a barbecue (kabab) competition was held among 6 teams with the participation of students of Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism, and the winners were presented with certificates and prizes.
The event participants embraced the holiday spirit by lighting a traditional Novruz bonfire, competing in egg-tapping contest, and performing various dances to the vibrant rhythms of national music.
