INT’L AWF CUP TOURNAMENT STARTS IN BAKU

The International Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF) Cup tournament started Tuesday at the Sport Palace in Baku.

Speaking at the opening ceremony vice-president of National Olympic Committee Khazar Isayev and secretary general of the Federation Javid Gurbanov praised Heydar Aliyev`s contribution to developing sports in Azerbaijan.

They stressed President Ilham Aliyev is also paying great attention to sport industry.

The speakers underlined Azerbaijan hosted 36 international tournaments in 2007.

The tournament brings together wresters from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Iran, Georgia and Uzbekistan to compete in weight categories of 50 kg, 55 kg, 60 kg, 66 kg, 74 kg, 84 kg, 96 kg and 120 kg.
