Jean-Jacob Bicep: Wars are not accidents

“Social relations are shaped by political processes directly affecting the quality of people’s lives. Political activity should be guided by respect for rights and the protection of the common good, driven not by dominance or superiority, but by ethical values and responsibility,” said Jean-Jacob Bicep, Secretary-General of the People’s Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe (UPLG), coordinator of the Guadeloupe branch of the Front for Decolonization (FID), at the conference on “Neocolonialism and Global Inequality” held in Baku.
According to him, wars are not accidents. “It results from disruptions in the balance of power and long-standing political tensions, meaning it is a systemic process, not a sudden event,” he noted.
“As French President François Hollande once said, in times of conflict, political virtue is tested under the pressure of ill intentions and twisted ideologies. That is why we must continue to challenge unjust systems and the exploitation and colonial legacies that persist in certain societies, so that fairer and more balanced communities can take root,” he added.
