MEETING IN BANGKOK

A high-level meeting on the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific report on the implementation of the Beijing Platform of Action has been held in Bangkok, Thailand. This intergovernmental meeting attended by representatives from 47 countries has become a preliminary sitting for the large-scale report for the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action to be presented at the UN March 2005 Session in New York.

Azerbaijan was represented at the event by Chairman of the State Committee for Women’s Problems /SCWP/ Zahra Gouliyeva and deputy Chair Mominat Omarova.

The meeting participants discussed such problems as a woman and poverty, a woman and health care, violence against women, women and armed conflicts, women in governmental structures etc., and heard the regional reports as well.

SCWP Chairman Zahra Gouliyeva updated the meeting participants on what has been done in the last years to improve women’s living standards in Azerbaijan.
