“Neurope.eu” issues highlights first European Games

“Neurope.eu” has issued an article about the inaugural European Games that will take place in Baku from June 12-28.
“The Games, slated to take place every four years, were founded through a democratic vote by members of the European Olympic Committee (EOC) in 2012 and announced at a meeting of the body’s General Assembly in Rome the following December,” the article says.
“The new European Games, will provide a European equivalent of the multi-sport Asian Games and the Pan-American Games, both of which have been part of the calendar since 1951.
Representatives of 50 European nations will compete in 20 different disciplines, with the opening ceremony taking place on Friday June 12th in Baku National Stadium, a 68-000 capacity venue which normally houses the Azerbaijani national soccer team. During EURO 2020, the stadium will also host the quarterfinals and three of the group games.”
The article says: “6,000 athletes are expected to participated in the Baku Games, while up to 2,000 reporters are to arrive in Azerbaijan for coverage of the event. The 68,195-seat Olympic Stadium, the 5,407-seat National Gymnastics Arena and the 2,003-seat Water Sports Centre were constructed specially for the Games within a short time. The Games will keep Baku in sporty spirits till the closing ceremony, which will be held on Sunday, the 28th of June.”
“The new Games will play host to a number of sports, both traditional and new disciplines. The EOC made its selection from an “overwhelming” number of suggestions and narrowed it down to twenty sports; 16 Olympic events, with four sports making their debut in a multi-sport event of this scale.
There are the well-known sports; aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, judo, volleyball, boxing, canoe, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon and wrestling will all be there,” the article says.
