Olympic Sochi hosting 76th congress of AIPS
Baku, April 16 (AZERTAC). The 76th congress of sport journalists of the world (AIPS) has today started in the capital of the future Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
Delivering a speech in the event, Russian Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth policy Viltaly Mutko congratulated the sports journalists on the occasion.
AIPS President Gianni Merlo expressed his gratitude to the Russian government for the organization of the event.
The congress will last till April 19.
For the second time ever, the 76th AIPS Congress is being held in an Olympic city, the first occasion being in 2008.
The Congress has received full support of the Russian authorities and the Sochi LOC, giving the delegates an opportunity to live at the heart of the Olympic part in the hotel that will host the IOC during next year`s Sochi Olympic Games.
The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) was founded in 1924 in Paris. Members of the Association are national associations of sports journalists of 130 countries, including Russia. The organization holds mandatory annual Congress and two to three meetings of the Executive Committee.
The official decision to hold the 76th Congress of the International Sports Press Association in Sochi was taken in September 25, 2012 in Baku. The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, the Russian Ministry of Sport, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sochi city administration and the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia took part in the preparations for the Congress.
