Opening of Khojaly airport contradicts international law

Baku, January 22 (AZERTAC). Attempts to open the airport in the occupied Azerbaijani town of Khojaly runs counter to the international law. This air space belongs to Azerbaijan and for this reason, its usage by Armenia is in no way possible, spokesman to the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev told journalists on Monday.

According to the Chicago convention, all states have sovereignty over their airspace. Under the article 9, each state may restrict or prohibit uniformly the aircraft of other states from flying over certain areas of its territory.

He assured that the Foreign Ministry would step up its efforts in the legal field to apply the convention.
