PACE CO-RAPPORTEURS FOR AZERBAIJAN MEET HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSIONER
Andres Herkel (Estonia, EPP/C D) and Evguenia Jivkova (Bulgaria, SOC), Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of Azerbaijan who are making a fact-finding visit to Baku from 4 to 8 February, met Tuesday with Elmira Suleymanova, Human Rights Commissioner of the country.
Suleymanova said the National Action Plan on Protection of Human Rights had been approved and the Ombudsman Office is conducting relevant consultations with representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, law clinics and mass media.
The Human Rights Commissioner also said they had created a working group under the Ombudsman Office, which held public hearings in all regions of the country.
The Ombudsperson announced that Council of independent Experts representing governmental and non-governmental organizations functions under the Ombudsman office.
Suleymanova responded to various questions by co-rapporteurs, including the right of election, civil society and cooperation with NGOs.
