PACE keeps close eye on Nagorno-Karabakh dispute
Strasbourg, January 21 (AZERTAC). The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe keeps resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in focus of its attention, PACE chairman Jean-Claude Mignon said in a press conference prior to the winter session.
He expressed hope that Azerbaijan and the organization would put mutual accusations to rest before Azerbaijan`s taking over presidency in the Committee of Ministers.
He said he met a few times with heads of Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations. According to him, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a complicated dispute. But after meeting with French co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Jacque Faure, who assured that there the progress achieved.
Armenian is going to preside in the PACE Committee of Ministers after five months, followed by Austria and Azerbaijan in 2014. Mignon warned that presidency of both nations would be difficult in such an organization as the Council of Europe as long as both parties take concrete steps to solve the dispute.
He expressed willingness to travel to both Armenia and Azerbaijan together with both delegations.
According to the PACE President, France and Germany are going to celebrate 50 years of their friendship and no one could have imagined that the two enemies would have become an example in the world.
