PARLIAMENT SPEAKER CONTINUES OFFICIAL VISIT TO UKRAINE
The latter described the Ukraine-Azerbaijan relations as very stable saying the parliamentary aspect of the bilateral cooperation should correspond to the Ukraine-Azerbaijan relations development rate which was laid by the two countries’ presidents.
Chairman of the Milli Majlis Murtuz Alasgarov, for his part, called this visit remarkable as it is timed to the historical event - the founding of the Parliamentary Assembly of GUUAM.
He also stressed that Ukraine is a strategic ally of Azerbaijan. We have concern in strengthening of our relations, on parliaments level in particular, he said.
During the talk, the parties exchanged views on possibilities for deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation in political, economic and cultural spheres, and also touched upon the domestic political situations in both countries. They defined the plan of further interparliamentary cooperation stressing the necessity to intensify of activities of the interparliamentary friendship groups.
Mr. Alasgarov dwelt on the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh, its hard consequences for over a million refugees.
Vladimir Litvin, for his part reaffirm the position of Ukraine -such conflicts shall be settled only through negotiations and on the base of the international legal norms.
Following the talk, M. Alaskarov and V. Litvin answered the questions of journalists.
Later, the members of the Azerbaijan parliamentary delegation led by Chairman Murtuz Alasgarov met at the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine with first deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Ilchenko to discuss a number of issues of mutual interest.
On the second half of the day, Speaker M. Alasgarov met with leadership of the Kiev National University named after T. Shevchenko. Its Rector Viktor Skopenko awarded diploma and mantle of Honorary Doctor of the University to the Chairman of the Milli Majlis for his contributions to development of Ukraine-Azerbaijan relations.
Thanking for such a high respect, M. Alasgarov said he would be proud of bearing this honorary title, and continue to promote deepening of the friendly relations between the two independent countries. He presented memorable gifts to Mr. Skopenko, and member of the delegation, deputy V. Abdullayev the newly issued book “President of Peace and Stability” about Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.
In the evening, on behalf of the Ukraine Supreme Rada Speaker Vladimir Litvin, an official reception was given in honor of Milli Majlis Chairman Murtuz Alasgarov.
