PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES XII ATHENS SUMMER PARALYMPIANS AND TRAINERS
The President congratulated them on the good results achieved in the Games and said they worthily represented Azerbaijan in the Games. The fact that our paralympians failed to win medals during their first Games in 1996, but gained two in 2000, and two gold, one silver and one bronze medal this time, indicates we have achieved a great progress, he said.
The Head of State highly valued, in this connection, the effort of the National Paralympic Committee. We all know that playing sports requires enormous strength of will and selflessness from physically handicapped people, and I am very happy that the work done has yielded good fruits, he said.
President Ilham Aliyev also touched on the socio-economic development in the country. Our economy is strengthening; social problems are find their solution. Azerbaijan will do become a powerful and rich state, and this general development, will, of course, have a very positive impact on each sphere of life, and development of sports, in particular, he said.
Finally, the Azerbaijani leader expressed gratefulness to all who had contributed to success of the Azerbaijani Paralympic team and once again congratulated them on the victory.
Then about a participation Azerbaijani athlets had reported deputy of Minister of Labor and Social Protection of population Ilgar Rahimov. Speaking at the reception prize-winners of the XII Summer Paralympic Games were expressed his gratitude to the President for kindness to the disabled athletes.
