“Mr. President, Excellencies, Ladies and gentlemen,

I am very pleased to note that the relations between Norway and Azerbaijan are excellent, and that our contacts cover a number of areas. The petroleum sector is of paramount importance in these relations. Both countries give high priority to conducting their petroleum activities in a safe, sound and efficient manner. Both have chosen to open their petroleum sectors to international companies and, doing so, have benefited from their experience and knowledge. And both our countries should consistently aim to transform the petroleum revenues into welfare and security for the people of our respective countries.

Statoil plays an essential part in the relations between our two countries as the company plays vital role in the development of energy sector in Azerbaijan. This is of mutual benefit to both our countries. In addition to Statoil other Norwegian companies have been given the opportunity to take part in the activities of the Azerbaijani oil and gas sector. Norwegian companies have found interesting business opportunities in Azerbaijan, and I am certain they will continue to do so. No doubt, the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli development will continue to play a major role in this.
