PRESIDENTS OF AZERBAIJAN AND TURKMENISTAN MEET IN PRESENCE OF DELEGATIONS
Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov of Turkmenistan met in the presence of the two countries’ official delegations.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked his Turkmen counterpart for coming to Azerbaijan and expressed confidence that this visit will become an important stage in further development of the brotherly relationships between the two nations and will help realize existing potential of both countries more completely. “I am very glad that you have arrived in Azerbaijan accompanied by a big delegation. Members of the delegation represent a variety of fields that shows our desire to develop many-sided cooperation, economic, humanitarian ties,” he said.
The President went on to say that the two countries have much in common and have always been living in peace and friendship. “Today, both independent Turkmenistan and independent Azerbaijan are rapidly developing states. The opportunity to discuss the prospects of bilateral cooperation will allow us to plan a wide-ranging program for that cooperation,” the Azerbaijani leader said.
President Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov thanked his Azerbaijani counterpart for the warm welcome and hospitality. He said this visit is going under conditions of intensification of bilateral dialogue and is characterized by a qualitatively new level of relationships. “Our cooperation has great future and aims to achieve welfare for our peoples,” he said. The Turkmen leader praised the activities of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, which he described as an important mechanism of deepening the bilateral cooperation. President Berdymuhammedov also pointed out the two countries’ active interaction in the international arena. “In this context, we exchange views on issues of peace, security and development on both regional and global level,” he said.
The Turkmen President also thanked President Aliyev for backing Turkmenistan’s initiative on founding the UN Regional Preventive Diplomacy Center in the country’s capital Ashkhabad.
