RUSSIA INTRODUCES SOME RESTRICTIONS ON CROSSING THE RUSSIAN-AZERBAIJAN BORDER
The mentioned decision of the Russian side has commented the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Yakovenko. He has told: “The decision on some restrictions on crossing of the Russian - Azerbaijan border was adopted in connection with recent acts of terrorism on the Northern Caucasus and complication of situation in the region”.
According to A. Yakovenko, according to the Article 5 of the intergovernmental agreement about checkpoints through frontier from October 7, 1995, the Azerbaijan side has been notified on the said decision on diplomatic channels.
“The undertaken measures, he has told, have temporary character. They will be gradually cancelled in process of end of arrangement and hardware of checkpoints on the Russian - Azerbaijan border, and also normalization of the common situation on the Northern Caucasus.
“We are sure that in Azerbaijan, with which Russia supports a high level of cooperation including in questions of combat against terrorism, will consider the specified decision with understanding”, the official representative has noted in summary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Alexander Yakovenko.
