Saudi publication highlights Azerbaijan’s culinary traditions

The London-based Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat has published an extensive article on Azerbaijan’s rich culinary heritage, highlighting traditional dishes, cooking methods, and distinctive ingredients such as saffron, pomegranate, and figs.
The article notes that foreign chefs are interested in Azerbaijani cuisine, praising its rich dishes and hospitality. It describes gutab as a top recommendation for visitors and mentions “Basqal halva,” a traditional sweet made from sprouted wheat, nuts, and spices with high nutritional value.
The article emphasizes that each region of Azerbaijan has its own distinct culinary traditions. It concludes that Azerbaijani cuisine offers a unique cultural experience reflecting a rich heritage, making the country an attractive destination for gastronomic tourism.
