STATEMENT OF PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV
Dear Presidents
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to thank once again my friend Mr. Yushchenko for hosting such an interesting international event. The results of the summit are very encouraging. During the last year, we have managed to achieve major goals, which we put in front of us. The documents signed today reflect, actually, our previous activity and also our intentions and plans for the future. The success in the relatively short period of time clearly shows that when we unite our efforts and work as a team all the important energy issues can be resolved. Today, among the participants of the summit, we see producers, transit countries and consumers of energy resources. This is a very good example of how all these components of the energy policy get together; we discuss issues in a friendly atmosphere in the spirit of cooperation and achieve progress. Today, we are witnessing creation of the Caspian-Black Sea-Baltic energy corridor, which will be very important from the point of view of energy security and diversifications. I am sure that energy corridor, which unites our regions, will lead to a further development of our cooperation, transportation corridor, and humanitarian corridor. All that will lead to the better understanding within our countries and serve the mutual interests of our countries. Azerbaijan as an oil and gas producer has already accomplished major energy challenges, which were in front of us. We managed to achieve diversification of oil and gas supplies. Today, oil and gas from Azerbaijan is transported and can be transported to various destinations. We are working very closely in order to support our partners, our friends so that not only the producers but also consumers be able to choose on the competitive basis between the supplies. The diversification for consumers, for consumers and transit countries is the main prerequisite for our joint success. I think that the results of the summit are very positive. I am sure that by the next summit we will have much more to inform you. Once again, one of the most important outcomes of the today`s discussion is the unification of the efforts of the participants of the summit, and commitment to cooperation, partnership, friendship. We will be able to achieve all the tasks that we put in front of us.
