“The American side is very much interested that admirers of art of the USA got acquainted with the modern art of Azerbaijan”, the deputy minister of culture of Azerbaijan Sevda Mammadaliyeva told correspondent AzerTAj.

The deputy minister is on a visit to the United States on the invitation of a bureau on questions of education and culture of the State Department. During this visit to last two weeks, she will visit Washington, Philadelphia, Chicago and other cities and get acquainted with management of sphere of culture in the USA at a federal level and at level of states. At forthcoming meetings, are to be discussed the questions of development of culture in conditions of democratic system and market economy, protection of monuments of history, the role of higher educational institutions in teaching art.

In words of Sevda Mammadaliyeva, her American colleagues use these discussions closer to get acquainted with Azerbaijan. After acquaintance with the materials brought by the deputy minister, representatives of the USA have recognized, that the modern art and culture of our country do not concede to other leading cultures, and show deep interest to carrying out in the USA of exhibitions, various projects. The question on allocation by the US government corresponding grants for realization of these projects was also discussed.

At the meetings, also was presented information on the lost valuable samples of art, the rest on our lands, which are occupied as a result of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorny Karabakh conflict. Sevda Khanum noted: “Actively using the new connections established with the USA, we shall continue work on recognition of our cultural heritage by world community and bring up the truths about Azerbaijan to the notice of world community”.
