VISITING TURKISH SPEAKER MEETS AZERI COUNTERPART
Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Koksal Toptan, who is leading a large delegation to Azerbaijan for celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the country`s Parliament, met with speaker Ogtay Asadov.
The Chairman of the Azeri Parliament said “friendly and fraternal relations” between Azerbaijan and Turkey are developing very dynamically and successfully.
Ogtay Asadov said Turkey was the first country to recognize Azerbaijan`s independence.
He expressed confidence the Turkish delegation`s current trip will give the impetus to further developing the bilateral interparliamentary cooperation.
Asadov highly praised the current level of trade between the two countries, saying it is now over 1.68 billion dollars.
The Azeri speaker also touched upon the two countries` successful cooperation in regional projects, in particular the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway ones.
Koksal Toptan said Turkey and Azerbaijan are bound together by ties of history, friendship, culture and religion.
He pointed to overall development of the relations between the two countries.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly said his country supports Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
Koksal Toptan also stressed the importance of further boosting the bilateral interparliamentary relations.
